Gold bars, gold coins and other precious metals have high requirements for packaging in terms of protection, anti-counterfeiting, display and sealing. Blister packaging is the mainstream packaging solution for gold products thanks to its high transparency, good protection performance and tamper-proof design. Today, we will take you through the complete production workflow of professional blister packaging for gold products, combining general blister manufacturing standards and customized processes for precious metal packaging.

The Complete Production Process of Blister Packaging for Gold Products

Design and Preliminary Preparation

The whole production starts with design and preliminary preparation. Technicians first measure the actual dimensions of gold bars, gold coins and other precious metal products accurately. Considering the unique demands of gold products for high-grade protection, anti-counterfeiting and display, we analyze the protection standards for product storage, transportation and display, and confirm the cavity structure, overall specifications and anti-counterfeiting schemes of the packaging. Next, professional packaging design is carried out. We draw detailed construction drawings marked with precise cavity sizes, material parameters, printed patterns, brand logos and one-time anti-opening structures. Meanwhile, high-precision aluminum alloy or steel molds are customized to guarantee dimensional accuracy and structural stability in the subsequent forming process, which perfectly fits the regular shape of gold products.

Material Selection and Preprocessing

After finishing the preliminary design, we move on to professional material selection and preprocessing. In line with the core requirements of gold packaging for high transparency, high strength, scratch resistance and anti-counterfeiting, PET and PETG sheets with excellent transparency, wear resistance and toughness are selected as the main materials for blister cavities. High-barrier protective films and special anti-counterfeiting composite films are adopted as back sealing cover materials, while genuine double-sided adhesive tapes and anti-counterfeiting pressure-sensitive adhesives are prepared for sealing. Standard PET rolls are cut into sizes matching production equipment. All sheets are thoroughly dedusted and cleaned to remove stains, fingerprints and impurities, preventing defects that may damage packaging quality and affect the safe storage of gold products.

Sheet Printing and Surface Treatment

Once material preprocessing is done, we conduct professional printing and surface treatment tailored for gold packaging. Clean PET sheets are processed with screen printing according to design drawings, where brand logos, product specifications, decorative textures and basic anti-counterfeiting patterns are printed. After single printing, the sheets are left to air dry fully, so that the ink can be completely cured without peeling off or contaminating precious metals. For packaging with multi-color and high-precision requirements, repeated color matching and supplementary printing will be conducted until the patterns, colors and dimensions fully meet design standards. A final inspection on sheet integrity is carried out afterwards to get ready for blister forming.

Blister Cavity Thermoforming

Thermoforming is the core procedure of blister production. Qualified sheets with cured printing are delivered to professional blister machines. The equipment heats the sheets evenly with precise temperature control to soften the materials properly, and temperature parameters are strictly managed to avoid material aging and deformation. The softened sheets are attached to customized molds, and then vacuum adsorption or pressure molding is applied to create precise cavities that fit gold products perfectly. The newly formed blisters are rapidly cooled and shaped by the cooling system to fix the structure and size. Finally, demolding is performed, and only qualified blisters with no pull marks, bubbles or thin edges are selected for the next process.

Cutting and Finishing

The formed blisters go through cutting and fine trimming. Based on finished product specifications, die cutting or laser cutting is used to cut semi-finished products accurately. Laser cutting is applicable to special-shaped structures, ensuring uniform size and smooth edges of every single packaging unit. After cutting, we remove excess leftover materials and burrs through fine trimming, and polish the edges thoroughly. This step eliminates sharp corners that may undermine sealing performance and user experience, and completes the fine shaping of the packaging.

Anti-counterfeiting and Sealing Structure Processing

To realize anti-tampering and anti-counterfeiting functions for gold products, we process dedicated anti-counterfeiting and sealing structures next. High temperature and humidity resistant anti-counterfeiting adhesive tapes are pasted around the edges of trimmed blisters to build a one-time anti-opening sealing structure. Obvious traces will be left once the packaging is opened, effectively preventing unauthorized replacement of internal products. We also produce matching protective cover sheets separately. Laser holographic anti-counterfeiting labels and traceable QR codes are attached on designated positions of covers and blisters, building a complete product traceability and anti-counterfeiting system to greatly enhance the safety and authenticity guarantee of gold packaging.

Product Placement and Overall Sealing

All packaging accessories are ready before product loading and overall sealing, which is operated in a dust-free workshop environment. Workers place gold bars and gold coins steadily and accurately into the blister cavities to make sure the products are centered without shifting or shaking. After peeling off the isolation layer of adhesive tapes, the protective covers are aligned closely with blisters and pressed evenly to achieve tight sealing. In the final step of this procedure, a transparent protective film is attached on the outer surface of finished packaging, preventing scratches, dust and fingerprints during transit and display, so as to fully protect the appearance of gold products.

Comprehensive Quality Inspection

Strict comprehensive quality inspection is implemented after sealing. We combine automatic visual inspection and manual spot check to examine the appearance, printing precision, forming effect and edge flatness of each package. Inspectors also verify dimensional accuracy, sealing firmness and the intactness of anti-counterfeiting components. Meanwhile, multiple performance tests including sealing strength, temperature and humidity resistance and compression resistance are conducted. All unqualified products are eliminated via multi-level inspection, making sure every blister package complies with industry norms and the high quality standards for precious metal packaging.
